The addition of yet another building in the Maison & Objet trade fair allowed the integration of Meuble Paris, a furniture-based show that has run concurrently with Maison & Objet for years. So, while Maison & Objet was already considered one of the world’s premier trade fairs for home décor, it is even larger now. The result of this integration was a new rhythm to parts of the show that helped even ongoing products look fresh. There was another change at the show as well: more North-American Continue reading...
Busy, Busy

I know I have been away from blogging for too many weeks. I have not been away from social media, however. I have been on Twitter off and on over all that time. I really like Twitter because it is so quick. But here I am back at blogging, too. I am lucky to have been so busy over the past couple of months. In addition to writing and editing The Trend Curve™, I have also released out "Tis The Season™ 2010 - 2011 trend and color forecast for the Holidays. Thank you to everyone who has Continue reading...
FutureHome™: 2010 & Beyond
Today, Sunday, is a work day this week. FutureHome™: 2010 & Beyond is in layout, so I am staying close by our graphic designer. FutureHome took me weeks to write, as it has since The Trend Curve first debuted the product in the middle 1990’s. That’s because FutureHome is the most comprehensive trend forecast I ever release. It’s so big, in fact, that I only tackle writing it every other year. And it’s an amazing bestseller. For the newest version, I have written extensively Continue reading...
I’m Back!
Those of you who are frequent readers of my blog may be wondering where I have been. So have I! Beginning in January, I traveled to Frankfurt, Dublin, Frankfurt again, Paris, Las Vegas, New York and Frankfurt for a third time—all in about 30 days. I attended trade shows, developed the themes for trend exhibits for one of the European trade fairs, spoke six times in Europe, again at the Las Vegas Market and the New York International Gift Fair and met with clients in three of the Continue reading...
Trends in Products for Outdoor Living

At the Tendence trade fair in Frankfurt I saw some really terrific outdoor furniture forms. A few days later at the Maison & Objet fair in Paris I was totally blown away by the all the innovative products for outdoor living shown in Building 7’s Outdoor_Indoor exhibition. Even after we released our CD-ROM about Maison & Objet, I couldn’t stop thinking about everything I had seen for outdoor living. There were so many fabulous materials that I had not seen in outside use in Continue reading...
A Change in Schedule

Every now and then mistakes happen. Big ones. I discovered one of these big mistakes today when a subscriber phoned to ask about my talk in High Point during the upcoming Furniture Market. While Cathy scoured the official web site looking for the location of my talk, I went back to the email trail where I was asked to speak, hoping to confirm the location. When I did not see the location in any of these emails, I called the person who did the asking four months ago. That's when I Continue reading...
Changing Home Trends
What could be better to receive than an email filled with praise? That’s what I received yesterday out of the blue. I’m so tickled that I wanted to share it, minus identifying references, with my blog readers. I am a designer for XXX. Mr. XX recommended I contact you directly with the hopes that you can direct me towards a subscription that meets my needs. He is confident that The Trend Curve can help me with future trends in the marketplace. My goal is to learn about upcoming Continue reading...
Nine New Trends

I love to give seminars. I had a great time speaking in High Point at the Furniture Market a couple of weeks ago. We had a sell-out crowd of 178 people who were all willing to eat chicken and listen to me talk about home interiors trends. My talk was titled Nine New Trends: A Vision for the Future™. I came to High Point with nine trends I wanted to talk about but ended up bumping two of them so I could include a couple of topics that felt were more immediate, the textiles mix and the Continue reading...
Story Boards

I feel so proud of the work that my assistant, Laura Colón, and I (but mostly Laura) did for a client a couple of weeks ago. This company asked us to select six trends that matter for their business in 2006 – 2007, then write talking points about them, select a focused palette and create a story board. The six boards would be unveiled when I was in their offices to present a training seminar on trends and how to track them. I selected the right trends and interpretations and wrote Continue reading...
