This was my first day shopping the High Point Furniture Market. I spent the early part of today in the newly remodeled Interhall area. I loved it! There were so many young companies with amazing products that it made these six aisles a joy to walk.
One of the brightest spots was Ankasa. This company is only two years old, but their cutting-edge design sensibility makes me believe that an established future is assured for their hand-embellished textiles.
Jodi Sandman, Vice President, walked Editorial Correspondent to The Trend Curve Ann Wimmer and I through the space, pointing out new toss pillows with tie-dye grounds and ceshte embroidery (a technique from Western Asia). These pieces have an almost folkloric appearance that contrasted with the delicate botanicals found on pillows just across the showroom that looked like sheer skeleton leaves.
Launching this market: ottomans in three square sizes and one round, plus wall art that can be customized—all of it fabulous. This is one company we should all keep our eyes on.
