My One Minute and Fifteen Seconds of Fame

April 17, 2005 By Michelle Lamb -

Saturday was a long day, but not much different from all the others, at least in most regards. I got up, drove into High Point to visit more showrooms at the Furniture Market, then drove back and worked at my computer until 10pm or so. That’s when I took the time to look at Stewart Pittman’s blog.

Stewart is the delightful photojournalist sent by Fox 8, one of the local TV stations in High Point, NC, to interview me about home décor color and design trends. I knew only that I would meet someone from Fox 8 in the Century Furniture showroom on Friday at 1:30. I had hoped to get there a few minutes early to scope out a spot for our conversation, but Stewart was a few minutes early as well, and we arrived at the reception desk at the same time.

I liked Stewart right away. He was casually dressed (he would stay off-camera) and pleasant. And what a pro! He made me feel so comfortable that all my fears about being on-camera just melted away as he asked questions and I answered.

My moment of fame came sometime during Friday’s 5:30 newscast. I didn’t make it back to my hotel in time to catch the segment, which ran a minute and fifteen seconds, including B-roll. But I did see an email from Stewart saying that he enjoyed our meeting so much that he blogged about it.

After a long day in the market, followed by a few hours in my room at the Spring Hill Suites preparing images and comments for my Sunday talk, I finally got a moment to look at his blog. Stewart’s comments about our meeting were so flattering and kind that I beamed inside and out. I guess each of us thought that things went well, and that we had met someone who we would be pleased to work with again. Thanks, Stewart!
