The 64th edition of Pitti Bimbo took place in late January. It hosted over 10,000 visitors this year, up by more than 6% over last year’s event.
Pitti Bimbo is among the world’s most important trade fairs for children’s apparel and accessories. That’s why The Trend Curve carefully watches what happens in Italy each year. Of course, everything that shows up on apparel runways does not translate directly to home décor. Yet many elements can be interpreted nicely, impacting the future of color and trend for kids.
It’s no surprise that sweater knits featured so prominently among the winter fashions at this year’s Pitti Bimbo. That said, designers presented those knits in some decidedly new and fun ways that are sure to translate to home décor products.
For example, knit leggings were a key item. But to hold interest for the upcoming season, they reached for lacey patterns or embedded crystals —details that can work just as easily for knitted toss pillows. Other patterns and sparkle effects also helped the many sweater dresses spotted walking down the runway.
Here are a few knits we loved at Pitti Bimbo:

l-r: Leggings from Blumarine with crystal embellishments; Stripes switched directions and got a boost from sparkle at Brums; Miss Grant’s sweater knit knee-highs in a lacy pattern; Knit dresses were fun when layered at Pinko
