I have visited Jacques Pergay’s stand at the Maison & Objet trade fair for years because there is usually something wonderful to discover. Today that discovery was waiting right on the aisle.
A collection of metal furniture made of metal was styled in a way I had not seen before. It looked like an abstract, pen-and-ink drawing of a structure that had come to life. Mr. Pergay, who designed this collection (along with more than 90% of all the pieces his company offers), characterized the design sensibility as “Giacometti-style with charm.” Then he invited me to sit in one of the chairs. The stylish cushions made it surprisingly comfortable.
This is one line you won’t see in the U.S., a country where Jacques Pergay does not have representation. I think that should change, and I hope someone will contact Mr. Pergay so everyone in the States has a chance to buy these fabulous pieces.
