Now that our trend report from the Christmas World trade fair is done (you can order yours by visiting our web site and clicking on the Trend Store link and then on Trend Album™: Christmas World 2007, or email Janice), I have moved on quickly to our next European Trend Album, which is about the Maison & Objet trade fair in Paris, France.
In going through my notes and images, I came across some lighting that I remeber being fascinated by at the fair. There really were many of them as this is one of the best places to look at new forms, materials and techniques in portable lighting. But I only have time to talk about two today. Others will be highlighted in the trend report we create from this fair.
The pieces you see at the left were created by Vanessa Mitriani, a young talent that works exclusively in glass. I had highlighted one of her vases in The Trend Curve a couple of years ago and have followed her work ever since.
This year she debuted Meteorite, glass lamps with fabulous texture that comes from an aluminum “crust.” She wanted these pieces to look like the moon or like something that fell from the sky. Aren’t they great?
I also like these colored metal lamps from Le Labo Design. They make lots of well-designed pieces from industrial materials, but I took special notice of these because of how they assembled metal pieces into “shades.” We are tracking products that are or look like chain mail, as this one does.
I am writing about that trend, plus many, many others in Trend Album: Maison & Objet January 2007. Subscribers to The Trend Curve have already had a chance to pre-order the product (if you have done so, yours will ship first!). Anyone else who is interested in knowing about the colors, materials and motifs from this top-notch Paris fair can email Janice to order, or call 800.531.6614.
