Maison & Objet, Paris

January 26, 2007 By Michelle Lamb -

Paris, France is the location of the twice-yearly Maison & Objet trade fair. This huge fair is devoted to decorative home products ranging from furniture and textiles to dinnerware and gifts.

One of my favorite companies to see at this fair is Mat & Jewski. I know them for their innovative lighting, but today I saw other products as well. These were products with a touch of whimsy and a great sense of style.

Cups asked a question on the inside bottom. The answer was found on the saucer—just pick up the cup to reveal it. Dinner plates with fabulous designs held the surprise of a companion design on the back of the rim. A gentleman named Hervé held them for my picture. He is one of the designers at Mat & Jewski.

Also on view was a range of glass vases that featured color and texture elements that I liked. One of them had glass lines raised up but also chiseled so the Red and Black surface changed as the line moved down the Black piece.

This was just one of so many stands with product that made me say WOW. I don’t know if walking the aisles a different way, which I did today, gave me a new perspective, or if artists and companies put new energy into their designs this time. I only know that I was dazzled much of today.

Of course, Mat & Jewski also showed a range of delightful lighting. The Trend Curve will produce a CD-ROM Trend Album from this fair where I will write about and show lots of trends and new products, including that lighting. If you are interested in pre-ordering Trend Album: Maison & Objet January, 2007, email or call Janice. We should have it ready to ship mid-February.
