Who would have thought that one of the biggest growth categories at the September Maison & Objet trade fair would be stickers? These aren’t the kind of stickers your toddler decorates papers with. These are stickers for the wall, stickers to use for decoration.
As wallpaper makes its way back onto the scene, stickers are tagging right along. They provide an approach to decorating the wall that is perceived as more youthful. Billed as a great way to personalize a room—fast—stickers from Atelier R. Bernier came in huge fantasy flowers (they looked like pods of some kind to me) and giant human shadows. Tetrel showed the kinds of damask inspired florals that have been popular for the past few seasons, as well as another tried and true theme: silhouetted birds on branches.
Fleur de Kookyse: Murs & Plus used bright colors for leaves, dots and a space theme for kids, but their best designs brought geometrics like checks and dots to the inside of cleaned-up one-color paisleys. The result was a very modern update to a traditional pattern.
Ugly Edition had my hands-down favorite sticker assortment. Their line included a series of circles and icons. Layout the circles in lines or any way you like, then fill them with your choice of motif chosen from themes like leaves, urban or 50’s. I’m not sure I could get all of my circles to line up the way they did in their display but I know I would have fun trying.
I hope these stickers are easily (and harmlessly) removed.
