It was back in 2011 that The Trend Curve first forecasted an updated Asian trend for home décor. We said it would be signatured by modern materials, bright hues and a bold scale. All that has happened and more. This style is gathering so much momentum that more-livable and complex mid-tone colors are also making a Middle Kingdom statement that looks especially calming when teamed with beige and tan neutrals. But another color story is getting a foothold on the Asian-trend landscape: black and white.
Black-and-white combinations are basics for interiors, but from time to time, they also jump on the bell curve for trend. In 2015 and 2016, black/white duos will make a trend statement that shifts the look from graphic to classic. Everything from koi scallops to cranes and from dragons to fretwork will get a makeover in this updated approach to coloring Asian surface designs.
Here are a few examples from the recent High Point furniture market.
