Alex, about 6 years old
When our son, Alex, was a young boy (he is 20 years old now), he was thrilled to win anything when he played games at the local arcade. He brought home bouncy balls, tattoo transfers, mini-Slinky crawlers and tons of tiny plastic soldiers. Each one was a treasure—for a moment—then abandoned. What to do with all those leftover toys?
Artist Stéphane Gautier provided one answer. He painted and glued dozens of plastic soldiers into a heart in his creation Street Heart Pink, édition 10, shown by Galerie Barrouplanquart at the Maison & Objet trade fair. Seeing all those little gun-toting plastic soldiers formed into a beautiful, winged heart certainly provided an ironic twist. It also made me wish I had kept some of Alex’s arcade toys.
