Consumers rely on holidays to inspire season layers that enhance their everyday décor. Now that all the Christmas decorations are safely boxed up, thoughts of Valentine’s Day are offering a bright spot in the face of wintery weather.
Spring may not officially begin until March, but lots of consumers find themselves thinking about it along with Valentine’s Day. And why not? Love and the season of renewal just seem to go hand-in-hand.
Valentine’s Day represents big business. According to the National Retail Federation, sales of Valentine’s Day products have reached $17.3 billion. That includes not only candy and cards, but also gifts for loved ones, and even pets. Almost 20% of consumers will spend an average of $5.51 on a Valentine gift for their pet!
At The Trend Curve, we know how important Valentine’s Day is to Members of our subscriber family. That’s why we have dedicated two or more of the trends in our Spring Forward™ color-and-trend forecast to inspiring your Valentine’s Day product development each year.

Spring Forward™ 2015
In Spring Forward 2015, for example, First Kiss is all about the excitement of young love. A palette of joyful reds, white and new pinks help to translate printed candy hearts, lips and lipsticks into décor items like cushions, dessert plates and and table linens. We also added some exotic sizzle for Valentine’s Day ’15 in our Jungle Love trend. Colorful parrots and tropical blooms like Amazon lilies and orchids join animal-skin prints in red, white and black.

NY Cake
Work has already begun on our Valentine’s Day 2016 trends. We’re toying with a new look from the Rococo Revival, which will offer a sweet departure from more contemporary approaches. Don’t be surprised to see Cupid in 2016! We’re keeping our other Valentine’s Day plans under our hat for now.
But, there is much more to Spring Forward than Valentine’s Day colors and trends. This complete package also includes trend direction for Easter and Mother’s Day, for Father’s Day and even Fourth of July. We have always offered a fresh palette of colors and a full contingent of styles to help you make the most of spring and summer seasonal décor opportunities. And we’ll do it again for 2016.
