Milan Goes Green

May 20, 2010 By Patricia Bouley -

The tendency to go green was alive and well at the Milan furniture fair, with lots of recycled and repurposed materials integrated into fabulous designs to make them even more compelling. Here are a few standout products:

The beanbag chair was reinvented as the Beth Chair by Swiss designer Philippe Bestenheiders. Colorful and mod, it is made from 100% recycled tires, filled with shredded PET bottles and usable both indoors and out.

What can you do with 111 plastic Coke bottles? Plenty if you are designer Marcel Wanders for Magis. His recycled Sparkling Chair, made of recycled PET and filled with high-pressure air for strength, breaks down into pieces for easy shipping and assembly.

Big name designer Patricia Urquiola launched her modular eco-slanted “New Spring” sofa for high-end Moroso. Cushy, sleek, and classic it has an innovative and renewable plant-based fiber upholstered cover that is removable.
