Artists and art houses at Surtex were in retro mode where Holiday and Winter designs were concerned. That meant lots of mid-century motifs like atomic bursts and onion-shaped ornaments. Tana Bana Design Services revealed that their retro ornament pattern came in response to requests for mid-century style. In finished paper products, The Gift Wrap Company pointed out that all th displays at their National Stationery Show booth had a retro vibe.
When it came to color, mid-tone color combinations contradicted the conventional wisdom that traditional red and green are always the Holiday season choice. Studio 2 said they were using more blue-green tones for Christmas. They showed up from others, too, in unconventional mid-tone combinations, typically with one deep or bright foil.
