An emerging color story from the kid’s market is a basic for Mom and Dad: black and white. The popularity of this dynamic duo in the juvenile market has multiple roots.
To begin with, black alone is on-trend. Even though gray is the current go-with-anything neutral for the younger set, using black instead makes pastels, mid-tones and other neutrals pop. That’s why a growing following for black is forecasted over the next two years.

Just as importantly, black has a new audience because of the incoming status of zebras for little ones. They are part of an animal menagerie that also elevates giraffes, and is hinting at a role for elephants, too. Finally, black-and-white sheep have also been spotted. In fact, there were more sheep shown for kids at the autumn shows than the market has seen in years.
All this is bringing black-and-white contrast into the spotlight for 2017 kids’ products.
