- Matte finishes leaped ahead
- Pearl and metalized glass took off
- Reactive-glaze techniques returned to their obvious roots
- Relief pushed texture to an extreme
- Two-tone effects were building
- Slate textures informed both stone and porcelain
ICONS AND PATTERNS
- Speckles showed up everywhere
- Along with spots and splatters, they felt organic
- Softened geometry offered a counterpoint to declining facets
- References to outer space returned
- Butterflies and bugs ramped up
- Making everything easier was a recurring theme
