Trend Flash is exclusively for members of The Trend Curve™ subscriber family with immediate updates from major markets and trade shows around the globe. Michelle Lamb, Editorial Director for The Trend Curve, is in Frankfurt for the annual Christmasworld trade fair. Her top trend observations are below.
An upcoming issue of The Trend Curve will have even more about Christmasworld, but for a highly detailed rundown of the directional colors, textures, styles and motifs, our Trend Album™ Christmasworld 2013 will be out soon (estimated to ship in mid-February).
Here is Michelle’s Christmasworld trend overview:
COLOR
- Mint was back in a big way
- Subtle-and-complex rosy tones advanced
- Yellow-cast orange emerged, but copper metallic was the big orange story
- Trend-forward bright yellow emerged
- Still, gold metallic was the top yellow—and the top metallic tone
- Dark reds combined warm and cool tones
- Basic red meant so much more in this weaker European economy
TEXTURES AND EMBELLISHMENTS
- This was the year of the sequin
- Gemstones got larger
- Felt was thicker and less refined
- Yarn was evolving from knits to bulky looks
- Flock also made a comeback, sometimes with shaggier textures
- Matte/shine contrast was at the heart of many patterns
PATTERNS AND STYLES
- Owls stood out as a key trend
- Penguins came roaring back
- Asian themes took off
- So many companies saw a void in wedding-themed ornaments—and filled it
- Robots are post-peak for gifts, but incoming for Christmas
- Back on the watch list: angels
