Trend Flash™ – EuroCucina

April 23, 2018 By Trend Staff -

Trend Flash™ is an exclusive benefit for Members of The Trend Curve’s subscriber family. Elaine Markoutsas, Editorial Correspondent, has been in Milan for EuroCucina. Here are the top kitchen trends revealed at this important biennial fair, where blurred lines between kitchen and living spaces dominated the scene. The next issue of The Trend Curve will include more details from Elaine’s trend-spotting during this major design event.

Color

  • Neutrals came alive with tonal and textural nuances
  • Black stared in cabinetry, counters, faucets, mostly matte but with sparkle in black chrome
  • Rosy terra cotta was directional, indicating a modern Tuscan edge
  • Orange became a tangy accent, sometimes inside cabinets
  • Chrome yellow and citrus pops awakened cabinetry in important ways
  • Green extended its reach, especially in olive and apple
  • Blue calmed with lavender or green casts, and energized in Aegean hues

Finishes

  • Burnished brass was hot, while bronze grew modestly
  • Brushed stainless steel took on subtle patterning for interest
  • Matte dominated stone/porcelain countertops, as well as cabinet fronts
  • Matte colors, not just black, gave prototype appliances fascinating texture
  • Lacquered cabinets and select appliances adopted automotive finishes
  • Etched, reverse-painted glass extended color and artistry for cabinet doors
  • Texture came to concrete with relief-like stamping techniques

Pattern

  • Graffiti brought urban art to range faces
  • Robust veining on stone and porcelain cabinet fronts offered a new dynamic
  • Book-matching brought a real furniture sensibility to cabinets and counters
  • Small geometric pattern veneers lent life to counter and cabinet faces
  • Digital printing hinted at customization for cabinet fronts
  • Allover pattern covered fridges and small appliances
