Notable in New York:
COLOR
- Black was prevalent
- Soft, mid-tone gray dominated upholstery, providing a neutral backdrop
- Pinks ranged from soft and muted to vibrant and blue-cast
- Turquoise toned down
- Yellow, while less intense, was still light and strong
- Red, too, looked muted while remaining clean
MATERIALS AND TEXTURES
- Ash, either light or stained black, led mainstream wood choices
- Natural walnut was the elegant wood choice
- Solid-color laminates added color to wood cases
- Brushed, bronzy brass made a metals statement
- Pinpoint LEDs, embedded in wallcoverings, adorned like small crystals
- Concrete asked for more attention
- Agate, polished stones, marble made luxurious materials and pattern inspiration
MOTIFS AND THEMES
- Shape and structure trumped 2D pattern and surface decor
- Wallcoverings, however, were literally works of art — and a major statement
- Rorschach-inkblot wall-covering designs looked contemporary, lush, and elegant
- Floral and plant motifs, layered over abstract textures, created a sense of depth
- Digital printing made anything possible, including customization
