New in New York:
COLOR
- Pale, watery turquoise was the new “it” color in every category
- Red-cast orange made a widespread comeback
- A clear, sunny yellow gained market share
- Indigo remained prevalent, while a lighter version was incoming
- Taupe-influenced gray felt substantial, like concrete
- Metals translated to color: gold, warm brushed brass, stainless
- Bright pink looked lively and happy
MATERIALS AND TEXTURES
- Sparkle covered dec pillows: crystals, rhinestones, glass beads, sequins, metallic thread
- Laser cuts, etching, piercing and open mesh made sheet metal light and airy
- Brushed, spun and hammered textures produced metals with softer and warmer characters
- Gold felt modern, and less “precious”
- Light, natural wood combined with metal or ceramic
- Geodes and semiprecious stone slices were incoming in accessories
MOTIFS AND THEMES
- Clean, mid-century Danish modern shapes prevailed for tableware
- Simple leaf and petal shapes were incorporated into geometrics
- Geometrics became more curved, folkloric, less masculine
- Flat medallion designs also veered toward colorful and folkloric personalities
- Bold, abstract brushstroke and splatter patterns emerged
