COLOR
- Mineral shades made organic mid-tones more important
- Ethereal, atmospheric pales—abalone, pearl, cloud—were on-trend
- The blue family was everywhere and in every shade
- Orange gained, perfectly complementing blue from across the color wheel
- Newly neutral green was highly versatile, particularly in small-scale patterns that read as plains
- Pistachio popped up from popularly priced lines to the high end
- A growing range of subtle-yet-meaningful reds perfectly evoked henna tattoos, sangria punch and artisan dyes
- The newest neutrals reached for golden tendencies to favor warmer metals
TEXTURES, WEAVES
- Texture drove newness
- Enhanced yarns and richly layered patterns were top vehicles for textural expression
- Distressed, aged and weathered textures also increased in popularity
- Linen or linen-like ground cloths added another element of texture
- Complex matelassés derived additional dimension via contrast
- Tapestries looked lush and dense, but less bound by traditional placement of elements
MOTIFS
- Patterns, like colors, layered freely in prints and wovens
- Returning positive/negative contrast created lovely tension
- So did pairing masculine and feminine
- Hand-drawn lines and brushstrokes were artfully juxtaposed in non-directional patterns
- Ethnic motifs, while still strong, became more modern and less-specific
- Juvenile patterns evolved to charming novelties with sophisticated top notes
