I have subscribed to hfn for years and read as much of it as I can or am interested in every time it shows up in my mailbox. I was paging through the March 19 issue this morning when I saw an article about the Hunter Douglas International Alliance Conference, which will be held in Denver this July. The team at HD asked me to speak at this event months ago, and I am hard at work on my presentation. Already, the number of confirmed registrants has far exceeded their expectations.
In hfn’s page 31 article, several conference speakers are listed. I am one of them. Colin Powell is another. Imagine my surprise at seeing my name occupy space in the same paragraph as this retired General and former Secretary of State who is so widely admired (this will never happen again, I’m sure). Then imagine how amazing I feel my talk will have to be given the caliber of the other speaker.
I love to give seminars and talks about home décor trends. I am lucky enough to be asked to do this many times each year for private companies, trade shows and associations. Over the years I have shared the podium with some very prestigious industry names, but this is the first time I have been on the same program with an international figure like Colin Powell.
Of course, Powell is the headliner, giving the keynote address. I am just giving a 90-minute session to three different breakout groups. Nonetheless, I feel quite pleased to be part of the same program. I hope I will get a glimpse of him at the conference!
