Trend Forward

March 26, 2006 By Michelle Lamb -

I really love being able to fly for just a short while and be in another country. That’s one of the joys of living in Minnesota, so close to Canada. Today I flew to Seattle, then on to Vancouver. I am here to give a talk called Trend Forward for the Canadian Gift and Tableware Association conference tomorrow morning.

This association is not new to me. I presented at their Toronto conference last year and we all had such a good time that we decided to do it again (and again). I hope that this meeting will have just as good an audience as the one in Toronto. And I hope the same for Montreal, where I will also be speaking at another CGTA conference in a couple of days.

I really do enjoy speaking to groups that care about the future of color and design trends. A week ago I spoke at the A.S.I.D. conference in Nashville where the audience kept me going with great questions for 30 minutes after I had finished my talk. Maybe it’s crazy, but Q & A is probably my favorite part of any event.

In a couple of weeks I will be in High Point at the Furniture Market presenting Trend Focus: Eight Incoming Looks for 2007. Should be fun.

I am often asked to make my presentations in High Point available for purchase. We did that with Ten Top Trends™ and New Times, New Trends™ last year (you can still find both available in The Trend Curve’s™ Trend Store) and will probably do so with this new topic, too, and make it available for purchase a week or so after the market. If you want to pre-order, you can contact Cathy DeBono in our office by email or phone (952.893.1245).

One of the reasons why I don’t make my High Point presentations available ahead of time, but wait until I am there to finalize it, is that there are so many new accessory, lighting and furniture collections introduced at each market. I want the images I select for my talk to reflect the newness that can make these events so important. So I am often juggling images at the end of each day of visiting showrooms so I can include the best new examples of each color or trend. Then I am up late the night before my presentation putting the final touches on the visual part so it is absolutely up-to-date.

If you are a member of the Canadian Gift and Tableware Association and you attending the Vancouver conference, I will see you at 10am tomorrow. If you are planning to be at the Montreal meeting, I will present Trend Forward at the same time on March 29.

If you are going to High Point and want to attend my Trend Focus talk, you can find it on the 11th floor ballroom of IHFC on April 30 at noon. For tickets, contact Pamela White at The Interior Design Society.
