It seems that designs suggesting outer space can always be found in décor. But lately, they are being seen more often, and in a larger variety of interpretations. And although lighting seems to have a particular affinity for the topic, space-themed designs are also cropping up in a greater range of product types, from furniture and framed art to tableware and decorative accessories.
Some designs work like textural solids, expanding their appeal at a time when textures of all sorts—both tactile and visual—are on-trend. They mimic the night sky, as seen from earth, in items with names like Cosmos, Stardust and Galaxy. Or, they are creative imaginings of what celestial surfaces might look like, called Pluto or The Strange Materials.

Other items feature star patterns or fantasy swirls representing the atmosphere around a planet.
- Lunar Landscape, designed by Elisa Ossino
- Salda added a star detail
- Planeta, in lilac, from Bungalow 5
Still another group focuses on orbital paths, eclipses and the movement of heavenly bodies.
