Ambiente, held annually in Frankfurt Germany is a huge consumer-goods fair. With over 4,800 exhibitors displaying their newest and best products, it is also a great place to spot emerging and developing trends.
At the 2015 event, texture was a hot topic for materials of all kinds. One texture with a significant following in glass and ceramic looked chiseled or carved. Some indented areas had an established geometric sensibility that suggested facets. But the newest looks were less rigid. If facets were the starting point, they had evolved from symmetrical to irregular, sagging or wilting on the surface. Other carved elements felt rounded, like dots. Yet increasingly, the cut-away areas looked completely organic and irregular.
Here are a few items with these new textures from Bovictus, Cristalleria, Item International, Lambert, Luigi Bormioli and Nachtmann.
