The Ever-Evolving Easter Bunny

January 29, 2015 By Janice Carlson -

He’s the symbol of spring and a key figure in America’s 4th biggest seasonal-spending Holiday, but what do we really know about the behind-the-scenes life of the Easter Bunny?

Spring Forward™ 2015

Spring Forward™ 2015

A brief look back at past Spring Forward™ color-and-trend forecasts provides a trend-tracing bunny trail and hints about where he’s likely to hop next.

In 2013, this smart mogul took an edgy look back at 1960s “hip-hop” culture, as mini-skirted girl rabbits put a retro spin on the Easter parade. He reminded us that the Broadway hit “Hare” was all the rage in 1968, and he also designated the peace symbol as the leading design for Easter egg decorating.

With his ears always pricked for incoming trends, our favorite bunny led us to a gold standard for 2014 in a 24-Carrot Garden! This trend opened up a full range of colorful, textured carrots, cabbages, pea pods, peppers, and leafy herbs that brought springtime back to its earthy roots and ushered in details like printed burlap ribbon and seed-packet prints.

For 2015 we’re predicting a tour stop for the Bunny Ballet. Expect to be dazzled by their reprisals of such time-honored classics as Sleeping Bunny and Rabbito & Juliet. You just can’t go wrong with tulle ruffles and pastel sequins for this celebration of spring!

With the Teacher’s Pet trend, also for 2015, our main character also reminds us that a lot of schooling goes into raising future bunnies, and they are just as apt to be dressed for school or work as they are in Easter-Sunday finery.

But where is all of this leading for 2016? We can’t tell you too much yet, but here’s a hint. Think countertrends: smart, slick city bunnies and jackrabbits who add a Southwestern spin on Easter.

You never know what other trends might show up—there are always surprises in the Easter Bunny’s basket!
