Metal demonstrated some interesting tendencies at the summer gift shows, and most of them were lightweight. Although heavy iron looks are trending in furniture and lighting as Italian and Spanish looks continue to emerge, they were not yet on the scene at the gift markets.
Most important: chicken wire. It was shown in colored, rusted and galvanized personalities. It came in roles we have come to expect, like baskets, plus a few new ones, like replacing glass over a picture. Beaded wire frames formed sheep, lions and giraffes. At the same time, laser-cut letters or figures, applied dimensionally to wood, gave metal a fresh look with real potential. Here are a few of our favorite metal looks from DMC and AmericasMart this summer:
- Transpac
- Seasons Direct
- Direct Export
- South Africa’s Lifestyle Hub
- Midwest CBK
- Park Hill
