One of the most-popular memes from 2015 has been puppies running, playing or swarming over babies or toddlers. Another big theme: dogs and cats together. Even though conventional wisdom holds that cat and dog “siblings” fight, You-Tube seems to have proven that this isn’t really true. Dogs and cats play chase, have their own version of hide-and-seek and snuggle together, with tails wagging.
Adults feel uplifted when they watch videos showing these situations, but kids absolutely love them. Why? Because kids adore household pets, even if they are not their own. They view these domesticated creatures as friends, playmates and confidants. Over time, they will tire of all their toys. But, even as they grow from baby to toddler, and from child to teen, kids never stop loving their dog or cat. Instead, they build bonds that grow stronger with each passing year.
So, why are there so few dog and/or cat patterns and shapes for kids’ bedding, toss pillows, picture frames or toy boxes?
The Trend Curve believes this is a missed opportunity. We see a growing market for kids’ patterns that feature dogs and cats—together or alone, personified or not, in realistic poses or retro situations—starting now and going through 2017. Almost any material can be used, from textiles to silicone and from acrylic to metal. Here are a few companies that are ready for the trend with cushions, rugs, chairs and more.
