I had a marvelous long weekend in Laguna Beach, CA. My husband and I were there for the wedding of a dear friend, and we were able to visit with The Trend Curve’s Editorial Correspondent, Mary Sausen, at the same time. Both Steve and I love walking by the ocean, (which we did on three days) but I adore walking into the little shops and galleries that are sprinkled along the streets almost as much.
October is off-season, so the usual crowds were not in evidence on this trip. That gave me a much better view of assortments and visual display. One gallery that had wonderful pieces and displayed them beautifully was Studio Arts Gallery on South Coast Highway.
I was drawn into the gallery by two large mosaic dogs that guarded the door. Other dogs by the same artist, Elizabeth Laul Healey, were inside. My favorite added poker chips, dice and watch-faces into the mosaic mix and was titled Lucky Dog.
Art-glass vases by Marcus Thesing were difficult to resist. One of them, titled Turquoise Rising, was as lovely and graceful a shape as I have seen.
Other glass items created by Thesing were on a table set for autumn that was simply spectacular. From blown-glass and ceramic pumpkins to fused-glass chargers, this table made me want to re-set all my décor for fall. Artists on the table:
– Stuart Abelman
– John Barber
– Ron Dier
– Grace Everett
– Michael Hermann
– Sian Poeschl
– Armando Sosa
– Muffin Spencer Devlin
– Lilia Venier
