I have always told myself that the first time I could do it, I would go to Europe to see what Christmas looks like at retail. That opportunity has now presented itself and I find myself today in Paris, where I have spent the last several hours at retail taking in the home and trim-a-tree areas.
One of the best color stories is on show at Habitat. Here Teal and Black is the hot color combinations for the Holidays. Best accent: deep and dark Amethyst. This combination not only looks fresh, but also looks updated as both Teal and dark Purple are on-trend. A great look came in a blown glass ornament with transparent Teal on the bottom and a shiny silver coating on the top.
Also looking right at Le Bon Marche: flat, dimensionless décor pieces like candleholders made of acrylic and etched like traditional candelabra, and trompé l’oieil books as wallpaper borders. This is for everyday, not Christmas. I had to mention it anyway because it looks so great.
Tomorrow I will continue my overview of retail before moving on to London, England on Wednesday.
