SOFA, the annual Sculptural Objects Functional Art + Design fair at Navy Pier in Chicago, is a carefully curated event, featuring the work of some 70-ish international exhibitors of studio glass, ceramics, wood, fiber, metal, jewelry, design and art furniture.
This year, there Editorial Correspondent Elaine Markoutsas noted an interest in knotted and tangled forms. These complicated structures were embraced in ceramic, glass and wood, with organic and even neural, cellular inspirations, such as the brain. Here are a few of The Trend Curve’s favorites:
- Leonardo Cimolin via Berengo Studio 1989
- Josephine Burr’s yellow knot
- Curlicue, by Lizzey Farey
- Mauro Bonaventura at Bernego Studio 1989
