Showcase, Ireland’s international creative expo, celebrated its 40th anniversary this year. Even though it feels like a hidden gem, this trade fair attracts buyers from Ireland and over 20 other countries. They come to see the latest collections from over 450 Irish designers, manufacturers and craftspeople in the gift, decorative accessory, fashion and jewelry categories.
At the 2016 event, Showcase introduced The Knitwear Project, a presentation of innovative Irish knitwear created by emerging and leading Irish designers and manufacturers. Textures and forms were highlighted, along with looks that ranged from rugged to refined.
Collaborations include Peter O’Brien working with Donegal’s Fisherman Out of Ireland and twice Oscar-nominated animation studio Cartoon Saloon working with Beacon Designs Ltd. in Cork. New and original work by companies like Coletti from Wicklow, Ireland’s Eye from Dublin and recent start-up Ekotree from Clare were also unveiled. Designs from a strong cohort of recent graduates played another part.
